Urban Scenes Go Deep
This new collage work invites the viewer deep into Karen’s introspective thought process. She is slowing down to investigate the depth and historical sense of time, within the urban landscape, to uncover intricate layers of meaning. This exploration is manifesting as the physical layering of past print fragments along with segments of new imagery.
Each of these collaged artworks is a one-of-a-kind work on paper.
New elements are created with screen prints layered on top of color rich monotypes.
“In creating my collage pieces I use images I printed in the past. I sift through my print library of painterly monotypes, graphic screen prints and lithographs. I sort, cut and meticulously layer the pieces to build a new narrative. My past creates the present through the deconstruction of previously printed imagery and its transformation into new landscapes.”
