CHOP MARK of MASTER PRINTER KAREN D. BECKWITH

Karen successfully completed the TAMARIND INSTITUTE’S renowned and rigorous professional certification fellowship to become a registered Master Printer in 1998. This requires demonstrating technical knowledge and aesthetic experience of the highest caliber, as well as mastering the complicated skill set necessary to successfully guide professional artistic collaborations. When the status of Master Printer is awarded, the printer designs a stamp that will be embossed onto their prints, thereby certifying an edition and signing their work. Karen’s chop mark portrays a bear symbol which she created, as a self reflection, for its calm, quiet, stable strength. There are only a little over a hundred Master Printers with registered Tamarind chop marks nationally, and Karen considers this status to be an honor.

Karen credits THE FOUR STONES OF KANEMITSU for instilling within her the desire to pursue certification as a Master Printer at the Tamarind Institute.
